Virginia, please tell us a little about yourself.
Thank you, Jodi. I always enjoy that opportunity. I am a writer and illustrator. I have been writing since I was a little girl, and back then, I wrote poetry and haikus. Later in life, I started writing children’s books.
What is the title of your book?
I have five books on the market. I will tell you about “Buzzzzzzzz What Honeybees Do” since we are looking at spring in a couple of months.
Please, tell us a little about your book.
Buzzzzzzzz What Honeybees Do, is a non-fiction, educational book, written for children originally—but I soon found out that it was a book for adults too.
What genre do you write?
Children’s genre is mainly what I have written for the past five books. However, because of writing opinion articles for many popular online news websites, and because of the writing projects I have planned for 2014 and 2015, I consider myself a mixed genre writer.
What inspired you to write this book?
Buzzzzzzzz What Honeybees Do was written for my granddaughter, Abigail. This is after she went to our bee yard and she came back in the house and was very inquisitive about the honeybees. This inspired me to write this book.
How long have you been writing?
I have been writing since I was a little girl. I would sit on my parent’s veranda with pen, pad in hand, and write hours, upon hours.
Which of your characters is your favorite and why?
My favorite character is the honeybee―as this insect is our greatest pollinator.
What is the hope for your book?
My hope for Buzzzzzzzz What Honeybees Do is that it will educate children and adults about honeybees our most important pollinators. Also, that this book will be found (as one of my reviewers put it) on the reference shelves of classroom science libraries, (and I am adding) “everywhere” to the end of that statement.
Do you have other books?
Yes, in addition to Buzzzzzzzz, I have written: The Princess and the Castle, The Prince and the Dragon, Crying Bear, and The Christmas Secret.
Besides writing, what are some of your other hobbies or interests?
Besides writing, I also illustrate my books. In addition to that, I am a nature and food photographer. I have thousands of photographs that I have shot. I create postcards, cups, and totes, among other items with my illustrations and photographs on it. I am a foodie—love to cook, and I added a recipe section to my blog I call, The Recipe Weekly.
What are you working on now?
I am working on a My First Book Series for 0-3 year olds. The first book in my series titled: “Wild Animal Sounds.” To be released in 2014.
What is your next project?
I am working on a few other projects that I am excited about; however, my lips are sealed right now—and to be announced when I feel it is time to open them and speak of it.

Thank you, Jodi—for having me on your blog, I am touched you asked me. I consider you not only a fellow author, but also a good friend. I appreciate you taking the time to interview me. I hope you and your viewers have enjoyed reading the questions and answers. I will give (one) of your commenting viewers (one) of my books. I will check back in about a week to see who has participated in this author interview and choose a winner at that time.

And Virginia, you are most welcome! I hope you have had fun! I know I have! Most of all, I hope all of you have enjoyed it! Just as a reminder, Virginia will be giving a book away to one of my lucky commenters… so… don't forget to leave a comment.
